We wish you a Merry Christmas!!

Happy Christmas Eve Day!!

Ours is already in full swing.

We went around town this morning delivering plates of breads, cakes, and cookies to some of our friends/merchants around town.  As we went, I was thinking how similar the scene was to the ones back home...the hustle and bustle of Christmas Eve in America.  The shopkeepers were so busy they barely had time to talk, which is unusual in this very relational culture.  However, there were the obvious differences as well...the dirt roads, the heat.  The hustle and bustle was mainly people walking and on bicycles shopping for live chickens and other food.  The way Zambians celebrate Christmas is by sharing a big meal together.  Sometimes families only have meat twice a year and Christmas is definitely one of those special times.  They generally do not exchange gifts.  The focus is on families spending time together.  Our prayer is that more families in our area next year will know the true meaning of Christmas, that Jesus came that they might live...that He might be their focus.

We pray you and yours have a wonderful Christmas this year and know the peace and joy that comes from knowing and walking with Jesus daily...even during the hard days...especially during the hard days.

Sharing my Secrets...

Can I be honest and let you in on a personal secret?  Promise not to judge?  OK, here it is, prayer lists are challenging for me.  I know, how unspiritual is that?  Line after line of the teen who is going to be taking his driving test next Tuesday, the parent who wants her precious, sensitive daughter to land the lead role in the school play or the hip surgery for Grandma Jane.  (Grandma, Grammy, Grandmother or whatever you call her is probably ready to come and kick my shins for vocalizing it… and she probably will once she gets full use of her legs again.)  There are also those prayer requests with a more “spiritual” side like praying for the missionaries who are living in pray-for-them-again-astan.  Am I the only one that struggles with prayer lists?   Can I be honest and let you in on a personal secret?  Promise not to judge?  (yes, I started two paragraphs in a row with the same two sentences)  OK, here it is, I als...
